Morning Devotion from the Desk of Emma Deekor: Early Morning With God (EMWG).
Bible Reading: Matthew. 22:36-40
Text: Leviticus 19:18 KJV
"Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD."
In Christiandom, Easter Monday is a day to share love with our neighbors. But you will agree with me that you cannot give what you do not have. The death of Jesus Christ centered around love. He loved us and that was why He gave His life for us.
The greatest enemy you have is yourself. Therefore, you must show that you love yourself first. It is only then you can love someone else. Yes. How do I show that I love myself?
The first step is to conquer sin. Sin fascinates and then assassinates. It must be avoided like a plague if we love ourselves, I John 3:8.
Retrace your steps if you have sinned. The story of the prodigal son comes handy (read Luke 15:11-24). When he realized what he had done he said in verse18,:
"I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,"
Go back to God and repent if you have sinned, I John 1:7-9).
Secondly, to demonstrate you love yourself, you must be obedient to the commandments of God Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments ( John 14:15, 15:14).
Thirdly, forgive yourself, Mark 11:25-26. This passage of the Bible reminds us that if you are before the altar praying and remember that you have something against your neighbors, forgive them. It is only then you have forgiven yourself. Yes. By doing it to others, you are doing it to yourself.
Finally, love your neighbors as yourself, Matthew 22:38). By the time you show that you love yourself, you can then extend it to your neighbors. You cannot give what you do not have, I repeat.
On this Easter Monday, share what you have with somebody. Do not always prefer people to give to you, Luke 6:38. Some people like asking, asking and asking but their own does not drop. Give out of that little you have to someone, that is what love is.
Happy Easter Monday and Remain blessed.
