Let us first look at DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REACTION AND RESPONSE
Reactions are done on impulse without putting much thought into it or considering what the end result may be, while Response is saying something in reply to an action or statement, it is more thoughtful and done with reasoning.
- Reaction causes a lot of damage in our lives, homes, and society.
- We should mellow our reaction in a godly way.
"A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention" Proverbs 15:18 (NKJV)
"Woe to the world because of [a]offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!" Matthew 18:7 (NKJV)
In every ACTION there is a REACTION. But are you reacting in a godly way?
It is normal to have feelings but it is very important to know how to control our feelings. People takes offenses but it is not suppose to be, God is against offences because it causes strife that can lead to contention.
When Moses reacted to the way the Israelite was behaving, In Number 20:10 he allowed their complain affected him and did not follow the instruction of God by striking the rock twice with his staff. When you read Deuteronomy 1:36-37 Moses later revealed that ''The Lord was also angry with me for your sakes, saying, ‘Even you shall not go in there''. He did not enter the promised land due to his negative reaction.
Ensure you react to situation in a positive way to avoid offenses, because it is written, ''to such Man/Woman offences come from; woe to such person. Matthew 18:7. Therefore, let us walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16-17
As believers, we should not allow anger to take control over us.
Case Study: Elisha 2 Kings 2:23-25). If you disobey God; God's anger may befall you Leviticus 26:22).
Let us look at WHAT THE BIBLE SAID ABOUT REACTION
1. James 1:19 "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath" (KJV).
2. Proverbs 14:29 "[He that is] slow to wrath [is] of great understanding: but [he that is] hasty of spirit exalteth folly." (KJV)
3. John 18:36 "Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence." (KJV)
4. Proverbs 16:22 "Understanding [is] a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools [is] folly." (KJV)
5. 1 Peter 5:5 "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all [of you] be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble." (KJV).
Let our reaction be in line with the word of God. “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give [a]place to the devil. Ephesians 4:26-27
BIBLICAL SOLUTIONS TO REACTION
1. Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (KJV)
2. Ephesians 4:2 "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love"_ (KJV)
3. Ecclesiastes 7:9 "Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
4. 1 Chronicles 16:11 "Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually" (KJV)
5. Colossians 3:17 "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." (KJV)
CONCLUSION:
It is important we react in a godly manner to whatever that happens. 1 Peter 2:20 "For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God". (NKJV).
Let us avoid negative reactions so that God will not take offense because it is written, "God hates offense".
PRAYER POINT:
1. 2 Corinthians 2:10 "Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For [a]if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ" (NKJV).
Begin to forgive whosoever that offended you so you can also be forgiven. James 1:20 "For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.(KJV).
2. Whatever evil, and disaster that are bound to happen shall not come near me and my loved ones in Jesus name (Evil and disaster is not our portion).
3. Whatever affliction I have been delivered from shall not rise again in Jesus name. Lord raise a standard against them.
4. Oh Lord, stop whatever problem that is ahead of me this year to disorganize me in Jesus name.
5. Father, make my joy to be full and make my happiness real in Jesus name.
6. Father, Your word that I have heard this morning, do not allow it to stand against me on the Last Day in Jesus name.
