2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
What is the correct, contextual and accurate interpretation of this scripture? I have listened to several versions of the meaning of this scripture, but I think this verse of the Bible is much broader than what many think it is.
When one reads Habakkuk Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, one will understand clearly what “Hab 2:2” means. The LORD answered me, "Write down what I show you. Write it clearly on a sign so that the message will be easy to read” (ERV).
In Chapter 1, Habakkuk saw a vision of a strong nation destroying everyone. That strong nation was Babylon. He became worried and asked God in Hab 1: 13, 17, “So why do you permit such evil? How can you watch while the wicked destroy people who are so much better?”, “Will he continue to take riches with his net? Will he continue destroying people without showing mercy?”
Prophet Habakkuk did not get the response to his questions until Chap 2. So, in verse 1 of Chap 2, Habakkuk said, “I will continue to watch what God will say to me, (“what He will say to my questions”). Finally, God responded, to him in verse 2, saying, “write the vision down……”, What vision? It is explained in verses 3 to the end of Chap 2.
God showed Habakkuk that Babylon will not continue forever. In verse 5, Habakkuk suddenly started talking about “wine can fool a person….” Bible students know that King Belshazzar of Babylon drank wine in a cup that ended his reign and ultimately, the fall of Babylon (Daniel Ch 5).
The Fall of Babylon and the last King (Belshazzar) was prophesied in Hab 2:6-16. The vision Habakkuk wrote down was the FALL OF BABYLON, AND HIS KINGS just like Jeremiah predicted in Jer 25:11-14, also confirmed by the words of Isaiah in Ish 23:15-17.
So if this vision was about the fall of a Kingdom and the rising of a new kingdom that would culminate in the Kingdom of Christ, how does it apply solely to prosperity preaching?
